In Montecassino, the <strong>Monte Cassino Abbey<\/strong> was founded by Saint Benedict in the 6th century and was the scene of a great battle during the Second World War. Besides, the Polish cemetery recalls the important battle of the Second World War when the bombardments razed the abbey where the Germans had entrenched. On the edge of the village, we discover the interesting remains of the Roman city of Cassino.<\/li>\n<li>To the north-west, it shares part of the <strong>Monti Simbruini Natural Park<\/strong> with the province of Rome, where peaks exceed 2000 meters, including two small ski resorts. On the way of the passes, in an isolated site immersed in the heart of greenery, is the <strong>Trisulti Charterhouse<\/strong>, an oasis of peace with its beautiful stones and gardens.<\/li>\n<li>Other places in <strong>Ciocciara Region<\/strong>, from west to east:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Ferentino<\/strong> is a picturesque village of Roman origin<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alatri<\/strong> is also a pretty village, with an impressive acropolis protected by remarkable cyclopean walls<\/li>\n<li><strong>Veroli<\/strong> has a large historic center of medieval origin<\/li>\n<li>Near Veroli, the <strong>Casamari Abbey<\/strong> is a beautiful building founded by the Cistercians in the 11th century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sora<\/strong> is the main town of the Ciocciara hills, close to the pretty <strong>Lake of Posta Fibreno<\/strong> and <strong>Isola del Liri<\/strong> known for the pretty waterfall in the city center<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arpino<\/strong> has kept its ancient acropolis surrounded by some beautiful Cyclopean walls, and a charming historic center where one found ancient remains<\/li>\n<li><strong>Alvito<\/strong> with its beautiful view is a picturesque village, where the alleys climb to the hillside to the old castle<\/li>\n<li>In the surroundings, there are pretty hilltop villages and castles: <strong>Vicalvi Castle<\/strong>, village of the Apennine foothills of <strong>San Donato Val di Comino<\/strong>, the village of <strong>Atina<\/strong>, the castle of <strong>Roccasecca<\/strong>, the medieval village of <strong>Boville Ernica<\/strong>, or the suggestive <strong>Monte San Giovanni Campano<\/strong> with its beautiful ducal castle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><a
