It was born in Naples. However, it is perfectly possible to enjoy excellent pizzas in the Italian capital, which actually has the highest number of pizzerias in Italy\u2014with more than 15,000!\r\n\r\nYou can find both <strong>Roman-style pizzas<\/strong> (<em>pizza romana<\/em> in Italian), with a thin crust and barely any edge, and <strong>Neapolitan-style pizzas<\/strong> (<em>pizza napoletana<\/em> in Italian), with a thick dough and puffed-up rim. Establishments are generally divided between those serving pizza by the slice (ideal, for example, for a quick lunch) and those offering whole pizzas, either for dine-in or takeaway.\r\n\r\nThe simplest pizzas are often the best. Two traditional Neapolitan varieties have existed since the 18th century: the <strong><em>margherita<\/em><\/strong> (tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil) and the <strong><em>marinara<\/em><\/strong> (tomato sauce, garlic, and oregano), always finished with a drizzle of olive oil.
