Food markets in Rome

  • Mercato Trionfale. Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: large covered market and good bargains, Via Andrea Doria 41, Via Tunisi 50.
  • Campo dei Fiori. Small tourist market, fruits and vegetables, spices and flowers every morning on Campo dei Fiori square. Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Mercato Latino, covered, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., until 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays ( !Hours and opening times to be checked on site or via local sources! ) Near Re di Roma station, Piazza Epiro.
  • Testaccio Market. Mainly food, every day except Sunday, from about 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Access via via Franklin, via Manuzio, via Galvani and via Ghiberti.
  • Mercato San Cosimato, Piazza San Cosimato, in Trastevere, every day except Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mainly food, including fish, meat and prepared dishes.
  • Mercato Nuovo Esquilino. Formerly Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, divided into a food, multi‑ethnic section, and a clothing section. Monday to Saturday, until 5 p.m. Via Filippo Turati, via Principe Amedeo 184.
  • Mercato Nomentano. Food market, Monday to Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Piazza Alessandria. Hours not confirmed by recent sources.

Flea & non-food markets in Rome

  • Porta Portese Market, Piazza Porta Portese
    This is the largest market in Rome, near the centre: new and second-hand clothes, antiques, items and accessories, plants, etc.
    It takes place every Sunday morning – from around 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., very large, very crowded. Beware of pickpockets…
  • Mercatomonti, Monti Market
    Small artisan, vintage, clothing, local production market. Usually open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., via Leonina 46 (Hotel Palatino)
  • Market on Via Sannio
    In the San Giovanni district, large market mainly clothing, Monday to Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Via Sannio.
  • Mercato delle stampe, Piazza Borghese, generally open in the morning except Sunday, closed in August, 16 small kiosks sell old books, postcards, watercolour drawings, objects, etc.

Shopping streets in Rome

Sales: January 5 – February 15 (in 2016); July 2 – August 15 (in 2016)

  • Around the Spanish Steps: clothing, shoes, luxury, fashion.
  • Luxury stores are mostly located near the Spanish Steps and especially Via Condotti with brands such as Armani, Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana;
  • The chic Via Frattina with Versace and Gente;
  • also Via Borgognona and Via Bocca di Leone;
  • Shops and jewellers on Via del Babuino.
  • Via Margutta: near the Spanish Steps, antique dealers and prestigious boutiques.
  • Many clothing stores are located on Via del Corso (between Piazza Venezia and Piazza del Popolo), of various quality, such as Zara, H&M, Gap, including the Alberto Sordi shopping gallery.
  • Via Appia Nuova, outside the Aurelian Walls, past the Basilica of Saint John Lateran. Various shops.
  • Numerous shops in the Prati‑Ottaviano district, near the Vatican, and on Via Cola di Rienzo for the more luxurious, then towards Ottaviano metro, Via Candia, Via Leone IV, etc.
  • Via Nazionale: not far from Termini station and Piazza Repubblica.
  • Via Giubbonari: next to Campo dei Fiori, shopping street with some shops mainly selling clothing and shoes.
