Without delving into an exhaustive list of ancient monuments of Rome (which you can in any case find in this section), we present here the places and buildings which, after the Pantheon, Colosseum and Forum, best evoke the prestigious past of the capital of the Roman Empire.
- The Forum Boarium, now Piazza Bocca della Verità, is the site of a former ancient port where magnificent temples and remnants of buildings still stand.
- The Mausoleum of Hadrian, which later became the basis of Castel Sant’Angelo
- The Baths of Caracalla, the largest thermal baths of antiquity
- The Palatine, the hill of the imperial residences, overlooking forum.
- The Aurelian walls and city gates
- The Theatre of Marcellus and Portico of Octavia, near the ghetto
- The early Christian catacombs, those of Priscilla, St. Calixte and Saint Sebastian.
- The Appian Way which stretches southeast of Rome in a green setting.
- The sanctuary of Largo Argentina, dating back to the Roman Republic.
- The aqueducts
