Fiumicino

Musée des bateaux romains de Fiumicino

Fiumicino est une petite ville côtière, à une trentaine de kilomètres du centre de Rome, tout près d’Ostie.
Sa commune accueille l’aéroport international principal de Rome : Leonardo da Vinci (Léonard de Vinci), inauguré en 1960 pour désengorger l’aéroport de Ciampino.
Un village de pêcheurs se développa sur cette côte à partir du XVIe siècle. Mais Fiumicino a toutefois un patrimoine antique intéressant bien que plutôt ignoré des voyageurs. On peut en effet y voir les vestiges de ports romains impériaux avec les Ports de Claude et de Trajan, les nécropoles romaines de Porto, Porto étant une ancienne presqu’île sacrée, ou le Musée des Bateaux romains (Museo delle Navi Romane) tout près des pistes de l’aéroport qui conserve les restes des coques de plusieurs embarcations.

Ostia antica

Nearly 20 kilometres from Rome, Ostia Antica is one of the most beautiful Roman sites in the region. Beyond its great archaeological interest, it also offers a pleasant and relaxing setting. Ostia was the port that served ancient Rome at the mouth of the Tiber. Under the empire it was enlarged with the Imperial Harbours of Claudius and Trajan that can also be discovered, with the nearby Necropolis of Portus in the Isola Sacra and a Roman Ships Museum.
